Chapter 1 - Introduction

Blueprint to Financial success.

Learning to invest successfully is probably the most important financial move you can make. You will be investing your entire life whether you like it or not, and your success at it largely dictates the style of life you will live. However, like a tree requires a strong root system the sound investor also requires strong roots. These roots supply both the money to invest and the strength against turbulent weather. You cannot make good long term investments without this grounding. The roots of a financial tree are sound money management techniques.

Sound money management's roots is not in the budget you setup or how you do your accounting. It starts in your understanding of what money is. The next root is your personal self esteem and your emotions. Without first addressing the psychological barriers, the best budget or most impressive plan means little. The following chapters will outline the psychology of money and then discuss fundamental principles of money management. The following chapter (Chapter 2 - Understanding Your Financial History) will discuss our how our experiences with money affect our opinions of money and our money management style.
